Came across this video from the “Raw to Ready” PBS series that documents how they build a Bentley from the ground up. I was pleasantly surprised to see a whole segment of this video that deals with the leather they use and some general history. The segment touches on:
- Discovery and early uses and manufacturing of leather
- Difference between vegetable tanning and chrome tanning leather
- The rigorous grading system Bentley uses when reviewing hides
- The state of the art technology they use to cut out all the pieces with as little waste as possible
