Leather Selection Suggestions
In this video we used 4oz. Shinki Hikaku Shell Cordovan. For this card sleeve I would suggest anywhere from 2 to 4.5oz. The thinner and more flexible the leather, the more cards will fit initially. If you leather is thicker (maybe in the 4-5oz range) the cards will fit tight at first. The 3-4 oz. range is a sweet spot for this sleeve.
If you are not using a vegetable tanned leather to create this flap wallet your edge finishing guidelines will probably be different. Chrome-tanned leathers and extremely soft leathers like sheepskin are difficult and sometimes impossible to burnish by hand. If you would like to follow this tutorial to spec, we would suggest acquiring a burnish-able vegetable tanned leather.
