Overview

Vegetable-tanned leather at Traditions Leathercraft

Traditions Leathercraft's public vegetable-tanned collection covers Live Oak sides and double shoulders, single shoulders, saddle skirting, imported double shoulders, belt strips and liners, belt packs, remnants, goat skins, and other vegetable-tanned articles. The company says it serves hobbyists and businesses, and it publishes an Oklahoma City store address.[1][7]

Live Oak is presented as the store's main tooling-leather line. A customer's first order is supposed to include a free sample ring of the listed Live Oak weights. That promise appears on the collection page, which does not explain how to request the ring, whether it can be replaced, or whether every weight later added to a product page will be included.[1]

The current Live Oak Sides page lists sides at roughly 20–24 square feet, separates premium from crafter grade, and offers selectable weights from 2–3 through 9–10 ounces. The product data shows the 2–3 ounce option as unavailable and five other weights as available. For that reason, the variant selector gives a more useful stock picture than a single in-stock or sold-out label.[2]

The current Live Oak double-shoulder page lists pieces at roughly 12–14 square feet in weights from 2–3 through 9–10 ounces. The side, double-shoulder, remnant, and belt-strip listings reviewed here all allow an order of one. The published 10-piece minimum is for the double-shoulder bulk discount, allows mixed weights, and is not a storewide retail minimum.[2][3][5]

For smaller jobs, the catalog includes precut Live Oak belt strips and liners, multipacks, mixed-weight remnants, and vegetable-tanned goat skins. The remnants cannot be sorted by weight, so they are not a dependable substitute when a project calls for a particular side, shoulder, or strap specification.[1][4][5]

The official pages do not agree on the Live Oak weight range. The collection introduction still names four weights: 3–4, 4–5, 6–7, and 8–9 ounces. The current side page lists six, and the double-shoulder page lists seven. Rather than smoothing over that conflict, this guide leaves it visible. Use the live product selector and confirm the needed variant before ordering.[1][2][3]

Service details

Samples, phone ordering, and pickup are documented; preparation services remain narrow.

The collection says a free Live Oak sample ring comes with the first order. It is not presented as a separate sample product. If the ring is needed to choose the leather for that first purchase, ask the store directly about timing and what the ring contains.[1]

If the cart's shipping calculation looks high, customers can call and place the order by phone. The shipping policy says phone orders are charged the actual carrier cost plus a small box fee. This is another way to place the order, not a general price-match or free-shipping offer.[6]

The Live Oak Sides page offers pickup at the Oklahoma City store, and the footer lists the same address and store hours. Pickup still depends on the item and current stock, so confirm that the order is ready before driving over.[2][7]

One harness-strap listing says customers can request other widths by phone, but the product is currently unavailable. None of the official sources reviewed here confirms general splitting, skiving, arbitrary panel cutting, or custom strap cutting across the catalog. Ask about preparation for the exact leather rather than treating a sold-out harness listing as a storewide service promise.[9]

Order planning

Shipping and returns.

United States ordering

The vegetable-tanned collection says Live Oak is used by customers around the country. The shipping policy says parcels normally go by UPS Ground, with postal service used for smaller orders. That supports United States shipping, but the official pages reviewed here do not give separate terms for Alaska, Hawaii, territories, or APO/FPO addresses.[1][6]

Calculated shipping and overage refunds

Shipping is calculated in the cart or at checkout. Traditions Leathercraft says it refunds the difference if a cheaper carrier or lower actual weight brings the cost down, and the refund may show up before the shipping notice. There is no published flat rate or free-shipping threshold, so the live checkout total still matters.[6][7]

The official sources reviewed here do not establish direct international shipping, so this guide does not mark the supplier for international destinations. Buyers outside the United States should ask about eligibility and get a current quote rather than assume the public storefront will ship to them.[6]

The refund policy gives buyers 30 days to request a return on eligible unused items in their original condition and packaging. Customers must make contact before sending anything back. Sale items and custom or special-order products are excluded, and refunds depend on receipt and inspection. The policy does not spell out leather-specific rules for cut or altered material, so confirm eligibility before marking, cutting, dyeing, or otherwise changing the leather.[8]

Decision guide

When this supplier may be worth comparing.

Potentially useful if you need

  • Comparing Live Oak tooling sides and double shoulders across several listed weights.
  • Choosing between premium, crafter-grade, imported, skirting, and smaller project formats.
  • Ordering a representative product at quantity one while reserving the 10-piece threshold for the published double-shoulder bulk discount.
  • Starting with precut belt strips, belt packs, remnants, or goat skins instead of a larger hide section.
  • Using a first-order sample-ring offer, phone ordering for shipping-cost concerns, or Oklahoma City pickup.
  • Buying with a published policy that refunds qualifying shipping overages.

Confirm before ordering

  • The exact product, grade, weight, dimensions, price, and variant availability in the live selector.
  • Which Live Oak weights are included in the first-order sample ring and when it is supplied.
  • Whether the desired item is eligible for Oklahoma City pickup and ready before travel.
  • Any custom-width harness-strap request, because the supporting product is currently unavailable and does not establish a catalog-wide cutting service.
  • The checkout carrier, charge, and eligibility for Alaska, Hawaii, territories, APO/FPO, or any destination outside the verified United States scope.
  • Return eligibility before altering leather, especially for sale, custom, or special-order items.
