Stitching Holes?

Yes

Design Features

This design carries four card slots — two on the front face, one on the back, and a wider center pocket best suited for cards you don’t reach for constantly: your driver’s license, insurance cards, anything you need available but not every five minutes. Slim enough to sit comfortably in a front pocket without the bulk of a traditional wallet.

Material Recommendation

We recommend using 3–4oz (1.2mm–1.6mm) leather or less for this project. This card holder is going to be 4 layers thick around the majority of its body so its important to keep the leather on the thinner side. Edge skiving would also be suggested if you are choosing to use thicker leather.

Skill Level: Beginner+

This is a very straightforward card holder design and great for beginners+. The pattern pieces are simple to read and the assembly process is very straightforward. Great project to practice making t-slots.

Stitching Holes?

No

Design Features

The Volta from Studio Hall is a three-pocket card holder with a clean, minimal profile. Two outer pockets sit on the front and back faces, with a larger center compartment in the middle. The detail that sets it apart: the center pocket is only stitched at the bottom, leaving the top open so it fans out for easier access to cards and cash. Solid beginner build, great design choice!

Material Recommendation

Studio Hall recommends 2.5oz – 3.5oz (1mm – 1.2mm) leather thickness for this card holder. The leather will have two layers that fold over and stack at its thickest point at the bottom seam (four layers). It is best to stay close to the recommended leather weights so your card holder isn’t too thick.

Skill Level: Beginner+

This is a fantastic beginner+ project. The pattern is simple to cut and the assembly steps are short and straightforward. Make sure to check out the build along video that is linked on the download page for this pattern.

Stitching Holes?

Yes

Design Features

The Slim Card Holder by MAKESUPPLY (yep, that’s us) is a super simple no frills one pocket card holder design. This design requires only a small amount of leather and one short line of stitching. Great for knocking them out quick.

Material Recommendation

Highly recommend making the slim card holder out of 3-4oz (1.2mm – 1.6mm) leather, however, there is some wiggle room if you want to go thicker or thinner. The thicker you go, the less you will be able to fit inside of the card holder until it breaks in.

Skill Level: Beginner+

This is a very accessible beginner project. Especially good if you want to practice cutting long soft curves in your leather. The pattern comes with suggested stitching holes marked approximately 6mm spaced.

Stitching Holes?

Design Features

The “No Sew” card holder from Waymore Leather is a solid pick if you want something quick with a rustic/industrial look. Two leather “wings” act as gussets held together by rivets — which gives you more storage than a traditional stitched design, and cuts the build time down dramatically.

Material Recommendation

Highly recommend making the No Sew card holder design out of 3.5-4oz (1.4-1.6mm) leather, however, there is some wiggle room if you want to go thicker or thinner. The most important aspect to think about when choosing your leather thickness is making sure you have the correct sized snap fasteners and rivets. Check the rivet and snap post length to confirm they will fit!

Skill Level: Beginner+

This is a beginner-level build. The process is straightforward – just don’t skip the rivet step. When you set each rivet, slide a hard surface inside the card holder underneath it first. That backing is what lets you seat the rivet cleanly without blowing out the leather on the other side. Watch the video and you’ll see exactly what that looks like.

The Simple Card Wallet by HAHNS Atelier is a truly unique take on the minimalist front-pocket carrier. Despite being made from just three small pieces of leather, its clever assembly creates a wallet that is as stylish as it is functional.

Design Features

The Simple Card Wallet by HAHNS Atelier is a truly unique take on the minimalist front-pocket carrier. Three pieces of leather, that’s it. The result is a slim, pocket-friendly build with a clean modern look that holds up against anything else in the card sleeve category. The standout detail is the cross-stitch pattern on the interior — it’s not something you see often in traditional wallet making, and it works. Cards are easy to get in and out despite how compact the whole thing is.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

This is a perfect beginner-to-intermediate project. Because it involves so few pieces, it’s a quick build, but the decorative cross-stitching provides a great opportunity to practice a lesser used stitching technique.

This pattern includes a build video you can reference as you make your wallet.

6. Card Holder Pattern by LEGACY BRAND LEATHER

Stitching Holes?

Design Features

The Card Holder Pattern by Legacy Brand Leather is really as simple as it gets. Its a single slot folded card holder design made from one small piece of leather. Designed for the true minimalists out there!

Material Recommendation

We would recommend a medium to medium-firm 3.5-4oz (1.4-1.8mm) leather for this project. You want something thin enough that you can make the best use out of the single slot design but durable enough to withstand all of the pressure and damage the top part of the card holder is going to accumulate going in and out of pockets and bags. Remember, all leather gets softer with age and use!

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

This is a great Beginner project. It only requires a small amount of leather and two short lines of stitching. The trickiest part (if you can even call it that) is going to be making sure you cut the bottom rounded corners evenly on all four sides.

This card holder pattern is available to download on the Legacy Brand Leather Project Patterns page at the very bottom of the list. There is also an instructional YouTube video to watch as well.

Design Features

One line of stitching. That’s all it takes to put together this origami-style card wallet from TALAKH — a slim front pocket build with two separate interior compartments and a snap closure.

Material Selection

There is a lot of folding on this project so you want to make sure you choose a medium to at most medium-firm leather. The maker is using “Pueblo” Italian vegetable tanned leather and that is a great choice. Flexible yet still firm. 3-4oz (1.2 – 1.6mm) is great thickness you want to avoid going much thicker than that. Also please take into consideration the post length of your snap fasteners to make sure they are matched to your leather thickness.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

This is a great beginner to intermediate project. There isn’t a lot of steps to this project but you do have to make sure your cuts are solid and your folds are on point otherwise the wallet won’t feel “compact”. The finishing details are everything with this style. While watching the build along video – note the maker trimming the bottom of wallet BEFORE stitching. If you’ve never done a “trim-style” project, this will introduce you to that process.

Stitching Holes?

Yes

Design Features

The Double Stack Card Holder from Rose Leather Crafts has a neat trick to it. A “floating” panel design gives you a larger gusseted main compartment on the inside and a traditional card slot up front.

Material Recommendations

We recommend 3-4oz (1.2mm – 1.6mm) medium firm leather for this project. Thicker leather will get very bulky with this style card holder since there are a lot of pieces to connect.

Skill Level: Intermediate+

Intermediate+ for one reason: order of operations. The floating panel construction has to be assembled in a specific sequence or the whole thing falls apart. If you haven’t built this style before it can feel a little counter-intuitive — it’s not as straightforward as a standard card holder.

Design Features

The Card Holder V2 by WS Leather Works is a very simple and straightforward five pocket card holder pattern. Two card slots on the front face, two card slots on the back, and one larger storage area in the middle. Easy Peasy.

Material Recommendation

We recommend our standard 3-4oz (1.2mm to 1.6mm) but this is a great project to do with thinner leather as well. At its thickest parts around the bottom edges you will have four layers of leather to contend with. Either keep the leather selection thin or get ready to do some edge skiving.

Skill Level: Beginner+

This project is very beginner-friendly. This is a great stepping stone to working on bi-fold wallets because you’ll learn how to work with t-slots and edge skiving (if your leather is too thick).

Design Features

This was our very first pattern. The Folded Card Holder is a solid first project — accessible, practical, and you get to choose your layout: two, three, or four card slots depending on how much you want to carry. Two on the inside, one or two on the outside.

Material Recommendation

You have a wide variety of leathers to choose from with this card holder design but as always we recommend 3-4oz (1.2 – 1.6mm) as a great middle ground. Medium to medium firm vegetable tanned leather works best.

Skill Level: Beginner+

This is a super simple project suitable for even a complete beginner. You’ll get good cutting and hand-stitching practice and a highly usable card holder at the end. Also comes with stitching holes marked approximately 6mm spaced if you choose to use them.

Stitching Holes?

Design Features

The Card Wallet from Navico Leather is a sharp envelope-style build. A “wing” system opens up a large main compartment for storing a bunch of cards, with a traditional stitched card slot behind it and a snap closure to finish it off.

Material Recommendation

We recommend 3-4oz (1.2mm to 1.6mm) medium firm leather for this project. Keep it on the thinner side for a more attractive and pocketable card holder.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Beginner to intermediate level. There are some curves and folds to pay attention to, but the main thing to watch is the rivet installation on the wings. In the video you can see the maker slide a metal block inside the card holder under each rivet before setting it — that’s what seats the rivet properly and keeps you from destroying the leather behind it. Don’t skip that step.

Stitching Holes?

Design Features

The Business Card Holder from STOVBETSKA Leathercraft is a clean one. A gusset system creates a large main compartment for storing a stack of cards, with a standard card slot up front and a magnetic closure to tie it together.

Material Recommendation

The maker gives detailed information on the leather weights they chose for this project in on their pattern pages. We would recommend keeping it on the thinner size for this project, 2.5oz – 3.5oz (1mm to 1.5mm). The thinner leather should be used for your gussets and the more standard card holder pieces can be made from the thicker leather.

Skill Level: Intermediate

This is a fantastic intermediate project. Creating gussets on card holders is a little tricky at first but its an important skill to learn if you want to make this larger capacity card holders.
